Had to get the gang up out of the house fed and dressed for skiing by 7AM! The ski gear shop was closed when we arrived last night, so we needed to do it this morning before the boy’s private lesson at 9AM. We made it but just barely. Whew….getting everyone fitted in boots, skis, poles and helmets is no small feat! Btw….I had 16 feet to get fitted! The boys instructor was great and attended Texas State University, go figure? Here they are before they headed to the slopes…all fresh and happy!

As soon as the boys headed off, I knew Scott was ready to hit the slopes with me! Good golly, I wasn’t sure if I was ready! Brought out all my anxieties. It has been 10 years….I’m older and out of shape! I insisted we sit and watch a while. Scott ultimately decided to go scope the place out while I continued to sit and worry about the situation. The lift line was long first thing in the morning. It took him almost an hour to return. He came back with reports of seeing the boys and great snow with wide slopes.
So with an “atta girl” and a “lets go”, I did my first run without falling!
Scott and I ran into the boys at lunch time. First day beginner skiing for adults is challenging for anyone, but add in a cold and some altitude sickness and you have no fun at all! Poor Raul had to call it quits for the day and sit and chill in the lobby. I felt so bad for him. And Jason had some very poor fitting boots that rubbed some sores on his calves within 2 hours of wearing them. He also wasn’t feeling well and decided to call it a day. Mihir and Jason, my other two never skiiers, were falling a lot but felt like they were getting the hang of it! They went back with John and Kyle for the rest of the afternoon with the private instructor!
Although John and Kyle didn’t really need ski school, they wanted to be with their friends! Proud mama! And I just have to say, I know those private instructors are pricey, but worth every penny!!! Its important to have a great start!
Brought everyone home about 4. Loads of fun stories were exchanged and lots of snackies consumed, then I could see everyone dropping off to sleep…right through my dinner time. So I made a dinner reservation at 9:30 at The Canteen Tap House and Tavern. Boy oh boy did it hit the spot! Chicken sandwich, fantastic burger, Ruben Sandwich, Wings to start and mac and cheese with cheese its on top.
