Motivation and Accountability

By Mika Graham

Deep cleaning my home isn’t my thing.  It isn’t any fun!  No fun = no cleaning!  After being in this big house for 10 years, I have accumulated waaay to many things and my fair share of dirt and dust!  I am a master of procrastination!

A few weeks ago, I decided to hire a friend of mine to come hold me accountable and help push me through the “boring”.  Tammi has more energy than anyone I know and ton of fun to hang with.  She only comes for 3 hours every two weeks….just enough time to really tear things up, get it super tidy, then leave me with a whopper of a mess to deal with!  I know that I’ll have 2 weeks before she returns to take on something new!

We started with the pantry!  Old expired food, a nasty floor and a disorganized mess!  I wish I had taken before photos.  This photo was taken when she left.  Half the food and super duper clean shelves!

The pantry had the tiniest old fluorescent light.  I replaced it all by myself with this super duper LED light!  Thanks Dad for teaching me basic home owner skills!  The new light is a bit blinding, but I’ll take it!

I bought the super cute polka dot run from Wayfair <insert wayfair song…:)>.  I bought little birdie hooks and fun cork boards for the walls.  I’m so proud!

On Tammi’s second visit, we unloaded my side of the master closet!  She cleaned the tops of all my shelves, wiped down all the shelves and used her super duper vacuum!

Yep….I tried on all those clothes over the next few days!  Took some huge soul searching!

Just part of the haul to the ACO, “Allen Community Outreach”.  “Let it Go!”

READY??!!!  It just my favorite things!!!  I can and would wear anything you see in this photo.  And it’s clean!

That is probably 3 trips of fun stuff from the Container Store.  I have some new best friends there now!

On Tammi’s third visit, we tackled Scott’s side of the closet (NO photos allowed!) and unloaded the master bathroom shelves and cabinets.  This is what she left me to sort through, but everything is sparkly clean!

It take take me several days to find the interest or motivation to get at it again!

I am embarrassed to say how many bags of partially used hair products I hauled to the trash…..but its gone!  Once again, my friends at the Container Store had a huge hand in helping!  I LOVE my bathroom again.

Tammi came again today.  We spent all her time unloading kitchen cabinets and drawers.   This is an area where I have done a better job keeping under control, but that doesn’t mean it was clean!  Tammi to the rescue!!!   No pictures yet!

I’ll be excited to see her in two weeks cuz she is so sweet and fun.  Maybe we can just sit and stitch next time???  Probably not!
